There are a number of critical technology steps that you can take to prevent issues.

If you are running a Windows based PC, make sure your virus scanner and spyware program are running and up to date. AVG Free is a wonderful and free virus scanner for personal use. Ad-aware prevents spyware from taking control of your computer.

For a bit safer and more enjoyable web browsing experience, I recommend the Firefox web browser and the Thunderbird e-mail client.

If you like the tools that Office has, but don't enjoy the price tag, may I suggest visiting openoffice.org. A office style software suite that includes Office formats at a unbeatable price...Free!
